Abeer and Yousef Al Otaiba Fund Supports KHCC Patients

The emotional and physical burden of a cancer diagnosis is devastating, but it becomes even more overwhelming when families and patients are faced with financial burdens. For many, cancer treatment remains out of reach because of the high cost. The Named Goodwill Fund established by H.E. Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba and his wife Abeer Shoukry-Al Otaiba for the amount of USD 50,000 has been an invaluable resource that has allowed the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) to treat underprivileged children and refugee cancer patients.  Since the establishment of the Yousef Al Otaiba and Abeer Shoukry-Al Otaiba Fund, seven underprivileged and refugee patients have been treated at King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC).

KHCC is grateful to Abeer and Yousef Al Otaiba for the establishment of this Goodwill Fund. A life-changing gift of this nature comes naturally for the Al Otaibas. Both Yousef and Abeer Al Otaiba have dedicated much of their time to supporting philanthropic initiatives that impact those in need. Yousef, who is Ambassador of the UAE to the US, has contributed to numerous causes including humanitarian relief, sports and community programs and disaster recovery efforts.

In addition to her work with KHCC, Abeer Al Otaiba serves as Honorary Chair on the Board of Directors for the Hope for Henry Foundation. This non-profit organization was established through Children’s National and creates innovative programs to improve pediatric patient experiences. Because of her personal connection to the experiences of children facing life-threatening illness, Abeer understands the importance of how hospitals treat and interact with young patients.

Commenting on this support, Mrs. Nisreen Qatamish, Director General of KHCF said: “The emotional and physical burden of a cancer diagnosis is devastating, and it becomes even more overwhelming when families and patients are faced with financial burdens. For many, cancer treatment remains out of reach simply because it is expensive. KHCC is grateful to Abeer and Yousef Al Otaiba for the establishment of this Goodwill Fund and looks forward to using this resource to treat more patients in need.”
